Ing. Our path

Ing. Ferrari S.p.A., operating as a general contractor in complex and multidisciplinary projects, needed to optimize its plant design processes by reducing development time, improving integration between architectural design, plant engineering, and BIM modeling, and ensuring greater consistency across the various design phases.

The software previously used showed limitations in terms of interoperability, coordination efficiency between disciplines, and management of technical data—especially in contexts with high plant system density. The goal was to adopt a more high-performance solution capable of streamlining the workflow, improving cost control, and increasing the accuracy of executive drawings, while effectively integrating with the existing BIM system.

To meet the need for greater efficiency, precision, and integration in plant design, Ing. Ferrari S.p.A. chose to adopt the ESApro platform by ESAin, selecting three strategic modules for its operations:

  • ESApro 3D Piping for advanced 3D modeling of mechanical systems,

  • ESApro Cable Trays for the design and routing of cable trays,

  • ESApro Isometric for the automatic generation of piping isometric diagrams.

The choice of ESApro was driven by the software’s ability to seamlessly integrate into the BIM workflow, its speed in generating technical drawings, and its flexibility in adapting to the various design standards required by clients.

Implementation took place progressively, with technical support from ESAin during both the setup phase and the training of internal staff, ensuring rapid tool adoption and immediate project readiness. Targeted customizations were also made to optimize module usage based on the company’s specific operational needs—particularly in the areas of industrial piping and interoperability.

One of the most significant cases of ESApro application at Ing. Ferrari S.p.A. involved a highly technological and systems-intensive project focused on the redevelopment of a strategic industrial building—formerly the site of trigeneration facilities—now repurposed into an advanced technology hub.

The project entailed the integrated design of mechanical systems, presenting particular complexity due to the density of geometries within relatively small spaces and the need to operate in a partially constructed environment.

Thanks to the level of detail achievable with ESApro, particularly through the 3D Piping module, it was possible to precisely plan the prefabrication of plant components, anticipating assembly constraints and execution sequences already during the design phase.

This approach led to a significant improvement in execution times, higher quality of the finished product, and a more efficient use of labor on site—reducing corrective interventions during construction and increasing safety.

The project was completed with the delivery of as-built documents equivalent to the final design drawings, having ensured maximum consistency between design and execution from the outset.

FUTURE OUTLOOK

The medium-term objective is to make ESApro an integral part of the company’s standardized process, with replicable digital workflows for complex projects and full synergy with other platforms already adopted within the BIM and PLM environment.
